Pickleball Guest Policy

Our current OHCC “Handbook of Rules and Regulations”  states in the section entitled Paddle Tennis, Pickleball, and Badminton (Page 26), “All guests are welcome to use the courts, provided a resident is present at the court at all times, supervising the play of such guests.  However, at any time when signed up and waiting to play, a resident shall have priority over any guests.

What does this mean exactly?  Situations have come about that have forced a more detailed interpretation–still enforcing this very general rule.  Pickleball has become so popular with so many new players taking up the game, that our courts are very busy during the most popular playing hours.   The Racquet Club has a published “Drop-In Schedule” posted at every venue, where it states, “No local non-resident guests during drop-in hours (except visiting houseguests).”  Having said this, it is just not wise for residents to bring houseguests during drop-in times since some locations are already crowded, and residents do have priority.  It is better to line up your own private game during open-play hours.

During “open play hours,” guests are welcome–come play for an hour.  If the court is still open with no one waiting, play for the rest of the day.  However, if residents arrive, no other court is open at that venue, and they ask for the court, play out your game and then give up the court.  You still may find another court available at one of the other two venues.

Definition of House Guest:  A person staying at your home for some days.

We all love the game, and ask that players be courteous and respectful of others.
